The Sacrament of Reconciliation
The sacrament of reconciliation is what you do when you've done something wrong, and you have to reconcile with the church. Its origins go back to the roman era in which christians periodically would be persecuted. The basic process that they set up was that they have to confess what they've done. It's sort of like, you know, if you're an alcoholic, the first thing you have to do is admit you have a problem. You first have to confess that you have sinned. Then, ah, you are expected to show your gratitude for for the forgive that's been given to you by doing a penance, some action, some sort of sacrifice or humbling action,.
