Joseph Pilates developed the Contrology while in an internment camp during World War II. The exercises were inspired by feral cats that came to the camp looking for food scraps. He had this idea that the mind and body are connected, which is a very popular idea,. And he developed what he called Contrology to sort of reestablish that connection.
