How to Disqualify the Positive

A lot of people can be inside of this place where they feel hopeless and, you know, like they have nothing going on for themselves. And so disqualifying the positive basically it acknowledges those positive experiences, but rejects them instead of embracing them. Another type of cognitive distortion is when people find themselves or your clients find themselves thinking in terms of what should and ought to happen to be said or to be done. These types of thoughts are often rooted in internalized family or cultural expectations that might not be appropriate for that person.
