Harland carter was convicted of murder and sentenced to three years in prison. His family appealed the conviction, saying he should have been given more time because he was a child. The judge overturned his conviction on several grounds including that some witnesses for the state were discredited having been convicted of infamous crimes. As a young adult, as a free man, he enrolls in the university of texas but changes his name from harlan h a r l a n to horland - which means 'good boy'
