Germany's Special on-White on Climate

Before the war, Russia provided Germany with 52% of its gas. Since September, it provides none. The country has had to pay through the nose for imports of liquefied natural gas. It has built new LNG terminals and reopened enough coal plants to power 5 million homes. Protests erupted in January near Dusseldorf around the expansion of a coal mine that produces Lignite - the dirtiest form of coal.
