The Paleocene Placentals
Paleocene mammals were the first placentals that took over from the dinosaurs. They filled all these new niches that really establish the world we know to day. There was a big warming spike, a huge spurt of global warming as the paleoscene ended and turned into the eocene. That's when we start to see recognizable placental mammals such as horses,. And out of this came more recognizable placentals like cattle or primates. The book is called Wi don nos: A History of Mammal Evolution by Andrew Keen (Simon & Schuster)
