The Importance of Reading
Mabel taught her two children at home and Ronald was a very keen pupil. She taught him a great deal of botany and this is where his love of nature really started. He could read by the age of four and could write fluently soon afterwards. His mother encouraged him and allowed him to read lots of books. But he dislikes Treasure Island and the Pied Piper, thought Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll was amusing but disturbing.
