In Urdu, there are hyperspecific words for relationships that we only have dull words for. The reason why we don't have the word machotonum is likely because in English speaking cultures, after a marriage, the bride moved in with the man's household. And so there wasn't a need for a word because there wasn't much of a relationship. This insight has really helped me think about language and like why we have the words that we have.
