The Brisbane River
Four convicts spent 21 days at sea after being caught in a storm. They thought they were drifting south, but actually travelled 1000 kilometres north along the east coast of Australia to Morton Bay. The river was spiritually significant and provided endless fish for the local indigenous people living along its banks. At almost 350 kilometres along, the Brisbane River is extensively vegetated with hundreds of different species of native plants and trees. Many parts of the river are so dense with scrubbing trees that the banks are impenetrable on foot.
