Is It a Bailout?
The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank showed the system working really, really well. The bank is going to be allowed to go bust or bought for a peppercorn amount by another bank in the US if they can find a buyer for it. But there was a slight rollback in financial regulations in the US in 2018 under Trump. It's interesting that relevant to the UK because the government is also looking at possibly rolling back some financial reforms. These are the reforms that have been labeled the Edinburgh reforms. And you can imagine that Jeremy Hunt will come under some pressure to allow those. He mentioned them in the budget and said he would be looking at them in the autumn.
