Brassier was originally a French term for a piece of armour. These brasiers were almost like extra blouses underneath women's actual blouses. Courser tree was reinforced with whale bone or metal. Lycra was a long way off. Children wore corsets, girls and boys. Then men didn't go around wearing them.
