The Coherence Theory of Truth
A number of philosophers took this as rather important because it suggests that you you've got to check any particular belief against other beliefs. This gave rise to a coherence theory of truth which is quite popular in the 19th century. There are coherent stories which include falsity and we can easily make up coherent stories about say historical periods which include things which are not true so it's only when you've got decent verification procedures decent these somehow getting your feet on the ground that you can be sure of that any particular coherent story is in fact true.
