i think like the sort of vulgar account of ideology is that the ideas that rule in society are those that perpetuate the particular power structure that exists already. I mean, we're not saying, and i hope that it doesn't sound like we're saying that people are attached to irrational self harming beliefs for no reason. They're attached to those beliefs because they do something for them, and they might do something for in the very immediate that justifies their position in a social order which benefits them on some more concrete level. It may be just a way of ceasing to experience the discomfort of feeling guilt or being identified as selfish instead of altruistic. And this is differen from sycabot
