The Future of Space Travel
The only way we get there without breaking the laws of physics as we know it is generation ships. The Citadel in Mass Effect is not just a space station with a landing dock. It's a planned community with restaurants, bars, government offices and apartments. Carpets would be necessary for our psychology if we really want to travel distance. What might get us there is thinking about ourselves as explorers instead of just thinking about ourselves.
