Radiation Oncology - What Are the Major Immediate Side Effects?

There's a risk of developing something called radiation pneumonitis. Radiation is going to cause inflammation of the normal lung as the tumor cells die and you get tumor infiltration with scavenger cells and immune cells. Radial humanitis can also happen in patients who get more long course therapy, concurrent chemo radiotherapy. In this case, we're giving small doses each day over six weeks. Many times they don't really creep up until two or three weeks after treatment.
