The number of subscribers is a proxy for the fact that there were a number of people who at one point like your content enough to hit the subscribe button. It means you've got longevity and that interest has gone down this path over time. But again, it might be an apples to oranges comparison because maybe you haven't released a video in the last three months. There's lots of different confounding factors to think about when trying to compare one channel to another.
