The Spanish Government's Exhumation of Franco's Remains
After a long legal battle with the Franco family, which had opposed exhumation, finally the Supreme Court approved it. The next step is to remove the remains of Republicans buried in the Valley of the Fallen. Some families have spent decades demanding the right to excavate the site. Though these are powerful steps towards Spain's reconciliation with its past, Spaniards still have no legal avenue to pursue justice for family members who were victims of Franco's regime.
