The friendship of Gilgamesh and Enkidu is common in ancient literature. What a college literature teacher might do might be to invite some analysis of the romantic dimensions of the friendship. Were they really just good buddies? Or were all the kissing, embracing, and demonstrative words of affection evidence that the two handsome heroes had what we would call a homosexual relationship? There's plenty of evidence on both sides.
