The Importance of Union Government Funding for State Police

A common thread which runs across a lot of state subjects is that states are performing police, say, in health education or law and order, mainly because there is a resource crunch. And we often have the union government stepping in providing additional resources, providing central funding so that the states can do this job better. So essentially our states are due to the resource plans that they suffer reliant on the union government in order to perform their duties better. I recall in 2016-17 when I was attending these meetings in Delhi for the police modernization funds, UP being the largest state with the largest number of policemen. But the funds in terms of quantum are too limited to make difference even in the medium term.
