Englishmen traveled to Italy to study with Guarino Veronese. John Collette disseminated ideas of Florentine Platonism in his lectures on theology at Oxford. The most powerful influence came from the Dutch scholar Erasmus, says Julian Zelizer. Under Henry VIII, works by Erasmus were translated into English and used for education.
