The Pre-Exilic Period

In the pre-exilic period, Jehovah would have been considered the God of gods. Each nation had its own deity that could only be worshiped on their soil. The idea being if I'm outside of Israel, I cannot worship Jehovah. And so for instance, when you have name in the Syrian comes down in First Kings and dips seven times in the Jordan and is healed, he wants to worship Jehovah back in Syria. So what does he do? He takes two cartloads of Israelite soil with himso that he can just take a piece of Israel and relocate it. In Psalm 82, Jesus quotes it in John 10:10 which is basically putting the gods of the nations
