Introduction

The column cosmological argument goes back to the efforts of early Christian commentators. It was then taken up into medieval Muslim theology when Islam swept across North Africa and evolved into an argument for the finitude of the past. The argument as stated by one of its greatest medieval proponents Al-Kazali is very simple. This one whatever begins to exist has a cause or alternatively an even more modest version of premise one would be to say that if the universe began to exist then the universe has a cause.
