John mc arthur published a book called the truth war, fighting for certainty in an age of deception. The title itself points us to how in fundamentalist evangelicalism, the gospel and certainty and truth are all conflated. If we look back at the ancient or mediaeval world, you won't find anyone fighting for certainty. That's a very modern mind set.
