The Importance of Touch in the Body
In our skin, we have dedicated receptors that respond to things like slow, gentle stroking. And when they're activated, they send signals to our brain to areas like the somatocensory cortex. This activates parts of the brain that were involved in processing rewards. Hormones like dopamine and oxytocin are involved in calming us and building bonds with other people.
