CHAPTER

What's the Public Attitude Around Strike and Pay?

Half a million people went on strike at the end of January, making it the biggest day of strike action for 12 years. The government's response has depended to a very substantial degree on public support and then by some sort of process,. not entirely clear how this would then turn into the strikes ending and the government winning. This comes on something different rather than kind of paying people off or trying to work out which disputes you want to have all at once. It's been taking everyone on all at once and then waiting for the public to get fed up and then the strikes kind of magically end. They've kind of misjudged part of that combination of just lack of experience.
