The Mismatch Between the Map and Reality

A lot of the way that humanitarian aid is done is very heavy-handed and not actually helpful to the situation. You know, for example, this was a kind of a learning moment for me when, you know, have you heard of Tom's shoes? Nope. So if you buy a pair of shoes, they will give free shoes to someone in the third world at the same time. And that sounds good but what you realize is that there's a guy there who was making shoes for a living...you basically are starting to destroy the local economy.
