"I was 22 or 23 when it happened. I didn't know any better at the time," he says of his stabbing incident. "If you let yourself go in that place for too long, you're going to create a problem ... much bigger and much harder to overcome than you would initially had if you could at least start to move [when things are still screwed up]."
