Over 30 million people in 800 cities hit the streets between january and march of two thousand three. The civil rights movement had been displaced by the black power movement. Public sympathy, to the extent it had existed before, had evaporated. And so that's where the activist left is by this point,. numerous, energetic, completely disorganized and completely lacking in coherent leadership.
