The Libertas Crown
An enslaved African American poet named Phyllis Wheatley is given credit for personifying her, making her into a character. In some of his illustrations, her robes changed. She got chains around her legs, broken to symbolize slavery. The crown morphed into a seven spoke diadem. It's supposed to be the personification of the Roman goddess Libertas.
