Stephan chilton, hailing from an aristocratic british family, travels through continental europe with his newly wed wife, valeri. Valery notices that stephan hesitates to phone his mother, who is unaware of the couple's marriage. Countess elizabeth becomes fixated on the young couple and informs them that she is a descendant of ergebet bathery, the cerial killer and mutilator of young girls. The spectre of the mother he tries to deny emerges in an overbearing, excessively inquisitive form heis in unavoidable.
