Jamaica was used as a dumping ground for unruly slaves on the slave ship that couldn't come to North America. "We just learned to survive because we had nothing," he says of growing up in Jamaica. His parents were furniture makers and his grandmother was a baker, but females weren't allowed to have jobs down there.
