Sadra believes that existence cascades forth from God like gradually diminishing light. There are no firm boundaries between things, rather things differ in terms of their intensity of existence. This doctrine of tushkiq, the modulation or gradation of being, goes hand in hand with the doctrine of universal, substantial motion.
