Scaling Up the Scale of Matter

When I think about the climate crisis from a geopolitics standpoint, climate change is about time and materiality. It follows that a scale of mattering might map onto these other scales according to things like intensity and heft or sheer numbers. This is what anthropologist Anit Singh might call the malevolent hegemony of precision nesting. The violence of quantification and reduction and exchangeability neither gives us the tools we need for the kind of scaling up that we seek.
