Kurtz's Return to the Steamship
Marlowe was awoken by tribal drumming from up in the jungle, and he goes on to check on Kurtz. Marlowe threatens to spat his head with the rock if he does this, and Kurtz says, I was on the threshold of great things. The two men return to the ship without anyone else knowing that he tried to escape. And the next day, the steamer heads back down the river as their leader departs for good.
