Teaching Philosophy Is Not Enough

There's an incredible demand to churn out peer-reviewed articles in often quite narrow journals. That seems to me a force that's driving people employed within universities away from engagement with public issues. I could never write an accurate peer-reviewed article without employing about six recerticists to look up and reference it. So if you refer to me as a philosopher you'll probably have to put in a little caveat that I'm not an academic philosopher any longer.
