Is Digital Better Than Analogue?

There's a common misconception that digital these days is better than analogue. Digital connections deliver video as a bit stream, so essentially zeros and ones. If i've got a device that can burn blue ray, and i want to steal it and distribute it on my own,  i could just start making copies of well-known films like The Hobbit which we're all hoping will make a comeback in the near future.
