The founder of Kickstarter started the site 14 years ago when he was living in New Orleans. He wanted to bring a pair of DJs down to play a show during 2002 Jazz Fest, but it didn't happen because there wasn't enough money for tickets. The company's raised $7 billion and 22 million people have backed a project.
