Make it wildly easy for them to do the thing. Reduce the number of steps reduce the friction. Use a messaging app that you use with your clients and just turn off notifications on the damn thing. Both Android and iPhone have the focus option so I can turn off who I want to hear from during different hours, so I don't even necessarily have to download a separate app because again that friction potentially for clients having to download something extra text it,. And then choose when you're welcoming, or just. always have it off.
