The concept of a first generation academic doesn't really super exist in australiaut i remember being very impressed when i met the occasional person whos his parents were a professor, mister carmies arrare. So obviously that works better at home, but you can see how the concept would be relevant here. The concept exists because it's sufficiently common that people are pulling in other people that they're related to to be part of the culture earlier.
