Twitch and Other Social Media Are Rewriting Parasocial Relationships

Psychologists and communication researchers call it a parasocial relationship. It's one-sided in that we can hear and see that famous person, but they can't do any of that with us. On an intellectual level, we still cultivate the attitude that we know them as part of our fandom or media consumption. These kinds of parasocial relationships are useful for building the famous person's brand.
