Melissa's one of the questions that really drove me was why could she become so obsessed with searching for a stranger, right? Someone she had no real personal connection to. This story is an inversion of the classic white savior narrative. She saw herself as someone who was devalued by society. And she saw Casey as someone who being part of this movement of young trans young men was also devaluing by society.
