Gary Sick: I'd like to ask what core American interests are at stake. If Ukraine joins NATO and a single bomb falls on Kyiv, the commitment to collective defense kicks in. The United States then has a treaty-based obligation to go to war against Russia; it can decide not to going to war but letting NATO deteriorate. It's by no means clear that NATO membership for Ukraine could be ratified across all NATO members, including U.S., Sick says.
