How to Increase Speed Workouts for Long Runs

Oftentimes you'll see programs that have intervals one day, a tempo run another day and then the long run is their other big run for the week. And I would encourage you to consider cutting that from two to one. It's going to promote your long term potential more than doing two speed workouts a week. Number five in this equation is related to speed, but I think it's worthy of a separate category: adding pace work to your long runs.
