Is the Fed Watching US Inflation?
There is if we look at three month annualized figures for US inflation, we have a lot of evidence that inflation is cooling off by now. We've never seen a significant breakdown in core inflation ahead of a recession before the mainstream US economy. There's some interesting stuff going on the US economy that's quite historic. And I'm not so sure that the Fed, which is very clearly anchoring on historical relationships between the labor market and its core services inflation may not be necessarily picking up on that.
