We record from the brain. We get maybe 100 tiny needles worth of information. Needles that are inserted in the brain and you're asking your own whereabouts. Detecting the signals. It's not as hard as you think. If we get our signal within 50 milliseconds, that's going to feel pretty instantaneous if you're trying to control something. A millisecond is not a millionth of a second. It's a thousandth of aSecond. That's about the time scale of neurons.
Are we nearing the singularity? Neil deGrasse Tyson and co-hosts Chuck Nice and Gary O’Reilly learn about brain machine interfaces and prosthetics you can control with your mind, with biomedical engineer Dr. Cindy Chestek and neurosurgeon Dr. Parag Patil
