Supreme court justices serve for life and make some of the most consequential decisions in american politics. No wonder then, that nominees go through such an intense process. In contrast to the hearings for donald trump's three appointees, this one lacks a particularly frought political context. There are no prospects this time for any meaningful ideological change that would alter the balance of the court.
