The Importance of Poverty in China

The most important aspect is poverty of expectation. If you live in a remote place where everyone has always been poor, it destroys your spirit. People now realise that they can get themselves out of poverty through their own efforts. They don't need handouts. Now they have the spirit and entrepreneurship to build on top of that. I also do want to talk about the material wealth. One of the examples that you use in the book is the creation of olive farms. China had no olive farming at all 50, 60, 70 years ago.
