Book of the New Sun by James Pruss
Pruss was very intentionally trying to do a kind of prussed in sci-fi thing, where it's written in that sort of very florid way. He would have an action scene and then break it off halfway through to have some seemingly unrelated philosophical reflection. And I think in some ways that's what Fifthhead was and that worked and New Sun is very much doubling down on that. But it's also a choice, like the kind of prose that he had there, which is very flowery and very self-conscious and very doing that.
