The Pros and Cons of Extended Beta Lactams

The study involved patients with gram negative monomicrobial bloodstream infections. They had to be started on in vitro active anti-suimono beta lactams within 24 hours from a culture. And they had to be kept on that drug for at least 48 hours. The goal was you wanted to see, did getting that upfront extended infusion beta lactam improve outcomes? Did that improve outcomes in patients? It actually showed that you were able to decrease length of stay, ICU length of stay and recurrence by giving the drugs as extended infusions. There was no mortality because only two patients died in the trial.
