Woolworths desegregates officially in July 1960 as a result of mediation between black business consultants and the civil rights movement. The first son of the city to win the Nobel Prize is a notorious black radical activist. They clearly have to give King a welcome banquet when he returns to the city in 1965. And who do you go to? You go to the legendary boss of Coca-Cola from the interwar period, Robert Woodruff onwards.
