Time magazine puts King on its cover in 1957, as early as 1957. Woolworths desegregates officially in July 1960 as a result of mediation between black business consultants and the civil rights movement. When MLK wins the Nobel Prize, global celebration, he's lionized the world over. But what is Atlantic going to do with this fact? The first son of the city to win the Nobel Prize is a notorious black radical activist. They clearly have to give King a welcome banquet when he returns to the city in 1965. And who do you go to? You go to the legendary boss of Coca-Cola from the interwar period, Robert Woodruff onwards.
